Overview:

The Director of Tax will lead the tax strategy, planning, and compliance oversight for the Family Office. This role will serve as the strategic advisor on all tax matters, partnering closely with the Principal, Chief of Staff, and external advisors. 


The Director of Tax will oversee tax planning and compliance across a range of entities and investments, including operating businesses, partnerships, trusts, private investments, real estate, and philanthropic structures. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of the family’s comprehensive tax strategy, focused on wealth preservation, tax efficiency, and long-term planning
  • Provide proactive tax planning across the family’s investment portfolio, operating businesses, trusts, and estate structures
  • Identify tax-efficient strategies related to private equity and venture investments, partnership allocations, real estate holdings, carried interest structures, liquidity events and asset sales
  • Advise on the tax implications of new investment opportunities, entity structures, and major transactions
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, and related entities
  • Manage and coordinate external tax advisors, accounting firms, and specialists to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and consistency across filings
  • Review tax returns, K-1s, and related documentation for accuracy and strategic alignment
  • Monitor evolving tax regulations and assess implications for the family’s structures and investments
  • Partner with the investment team to structure investments and entities in a tax-efficient manner
  • Support tax analysis related to co-investments, direct investments, and private funds
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external tax advisors, estate attorneys, and wealth planning professionals
  • Coordinate tax strategies across legal, estate planning, and investment initiatives
  • Oversee tax calendars, estimated payments, and compliance deadlines across all entities
  • Improve tax reporting and information flows across custodians, administrators, and investment managers
  • Evaluate tax technology and reporting tools to enhance efficiency and visibility


Qualifications:

  • 10–15+ years of tax experience within UHNW single family offices, multi-family offices, or Big 4 or top-tier accounting firms within the Private Client Services / Family Office / Partnership Tax division
  • Deep experience with partnership taxation, trust and estate taxation, private investment structures, and tax-efficient wealth transfer strategies for high-net-worth individuals
  • Experience overseeing complex tax structures involving multiple entities and investments
  • High integrity and ability to operate in a confidential, high-trust environment
  • Strategic thinker with strong technical tax expertise
  • Ability to translate complex tax matters into clear guidance for non-tax professionals
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work across legal, investment, and accounting advisors
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • CPA required
