About the role:
As a Data Architect for TQL, you’ll serve as the technical authority for designing and evolving a cloud‑first lakehouse architecture on Microsoft Azure. This role focuses on migrating complex on‑prem SQL Server environments into a scalable, governed Databricks Lakehouse platform that enables advanced analytics, AI, and enterprise reporting.
You’ll own architectural standards across ingestion, transformation, semantic layers, governance, and performance while partnering closely with Data Engineering, Analytics, and Governance teams. This role offers high impact, technical ownership and the opportunity to shape the future of enterprise data architecture.
Who we’re looking for:
- You have 8+ years of experience in data architecture or data engineering roles
- You have deep hands‑on expertise with Azure services including ADLS Gen2, Azure Data Factory, Event Hubs and Synapse or Fabric
- You have strong experience with Databricks, including Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Spark SQL and Workflows
- You have a proven background migrating on‑prem SQL Server environments to cloud lakehouse platforms
- You understand modern lakehouse patterns including Bronze, Silver and Gold layers
- You can translate complex technical architecture into business value for senior leaders
- You enjoy mentoring engineers and establishing best practices across teams
What you’ll be doing:
- Define and maintain enterprise standards for Azure Databricks Lakehouse architecture
- Lead the design and execution of hybrid‑to‑cloud migrations for large SQL Server workloads
- Establish modern ingestion patterns using Azure Data Factory, Databricks Workflows, Event Hubs, Kafka and third‑party tools
- Design CDC and streaming architectures that support near‑real‑time analytics
- Define ELT standards using Spark, SQL and Python in Databricks
- Create certified Gold‑layer datasets and semantic models for downstream BI platforms
- Partner with Data Governance to implement Unity Catalog, metadata, lineage and access controls
- Design data quality, privacy, PII masking, retention and auditing frameworks
- Establish performance and cost‑optimization guardrails for Spark workloads and Azure services
- Serve as the technical north star for Azure and Databricks best practices
- Mentor Data and Analytics Engineers on architecture, modeling and performance tuning
